Scarlett Johansson, American actress (born on November 22, 1985 in New York City New York) is well-known for her abilities to perform across various genres from period dramas to thrillers to action-packed films. Johansson has a father who is a filmmaker as well as an architect. The family is from New York City. Her twin brother Hunter were the youngest siblings of four. As a young girl of just 7 years old, she began casting for commercials on television. After a short time her studies began at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. In the years following it was the time that the Professional Children's School was opened in Manhattan. She made her debut as a film actress in North (1994) aged nine. She was just eight when she starred alongside Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson subsequently appeared in Just Cause (1995) but her breakthrough was Manny & Lo (1996) a coming-of-age film about abandoned sisters who escape. After that, she earned high praise from critics for her performance as the role of a teenager who suffered an accident that left her disfigured as she appeared in The Horse Whisperer (1998).
